About the region
The Caribbean is a region of the Americas consisting of the Caribbean Sea, its islands (most of which enclose the sea), and the surrounding coasts. The region is located southeast of North America, east of Central America, and to the north of South America.
Region Areas
There are two things the Caribbean is famous for: pirates and the Bermuda Triangle. Although pirates have become a bit extinct, talks about the puzzling imaginary triangle have never ceased.
Attractions
The region has long been known as a vacation destination for honeymooners and retirees, but a small movement toward eco-tourism and backpacking has started to open up the Caribbean to more independent travel.
Transportation
With year-round good weather (with the minor exception of hurricane season in the late summer and early fall), promotional air fares from Europe and North America, and hundreds of islands to explore, the Caribbean offers something for almost everyone.
Events
The Caribbean is mainly a Latino culture area and as such events tend to be exciting and not for the weak at heart. But there are some events that can be enjoyed with the family or with a loved one.
Restaurants & Nightlife
The region offers many Latino specialties as well as traces of US, French, Italian and British cuisine. Thus dining out in the Caribbean really adds something new to your experience. The nightlife is also something special indeed, as the Latino groove of the area really comes to life after the sun sets.
History & Civilisation
The Caribbean islands were first inhabited by the Arawak Indians, then were invaded by a more aggressive tribe, the Caribs. Unfortunately, the Caribs could not appreciate their victory for long, for the Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, French, and British, colonized their lands.
The Bermuda Triangle – facts or fiction
The so called history of the Bermuda Triangle started in the late 15th century with the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus. He was the first to document in his journals strange occurrences within the perimeter of the triangle, reporting he and his crew saw lights on the horizon, flames in the sky and got bizarre compass readings.
